PRACTICAL FLIGHT TRAINING

We provide the practical flight training portion of the EASA IR(H) course. Theoretical knowledge training must be completed prior to starting with us.

An EASA IR(H) — the Instrument Rating (Helicopter) — qualifies a helicopter pilot to fly under Instrument Flight Rules, controlling and navigating the aircraft by reference to instruments alone. HeliAir Sweden delivers the practical flight training element of the EASA IR(H) course: 55 hours combining 40 hours of FNPT II simulator training with 15 hours of instrument flying in a glass-cockpit Bell 206 Long Ranger, taught by EASA-certified instructors in Sweden.

SIMULATOR TRAINING

Spend 40 hours mastering instrument procedures and practicing emergency scenarios in our approved FNPT II flight simulation training device.

HELICOPTER FLIGHT TRAINING

15 hours of real-world instrument flying in the Bell 206 Long Ranger with experienced EASA-certified flight instructors.

Prerequisites: IR theoretical knowledge examination must be passed before commencing practical training.

EASA IR(H) TRAINING FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about our instrument rating helicopter course in Sweden.

What is an EASA IR(H)?

An EASA IR(H) is the Instrument Rating (Helicopter) — an EASA qualification that allows helicopter pilots to fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), navigating and controlling the aircraft solely by reference to instruments in cloud or low-visibility conditions. It is added to an existing helicopter pilot licence.

Who can enroll on the IR(H) course?

You must hold a CPL(H) or PPL(H), a valid EASA Class 1 medical certificate, and ICAO English language proficiency at Level 4 or higher. You must also pass the IR theoretical knowledge examination before starting the practical training with us.

How long does the IR(H) course take?

The course takes 4 weeks if you already hold a valid Bell 206 Long Ranger type rating. If the type rating also needs to be obtained, the course takes 5 weeks.

How many flight hours does the course include?

The course is 55 hours of training in total: 40 hours in an FNPT II flight simulator and 15 hours in the Bell 206 Long Ranger helicopter.

What aircraft is used for training?

Practical flight training is conducted in a Bell 206 Long Ranger — a single-turbine, IFR-certified helicopter equipped with a modern glass cockpit, providing an ideal platform for mastering instrument procedures.

Where does the training take place?

The training is conducted in Sweden by HeliAir Sweden AB, an EASA-approved Air Training Organisation operating under Approval SE.ATO.0021.

Do I need to complete the theory before starting?

Yes. HeliAir Sweden provides the practical flight training portion of the EASA IR(H) course. You must pass the IR theoretical knowledge examination before commencing practical training with us.

What does the simulator training cover?

The 40 hours of FNPT II simulator training are used to master instrument flight procedures and practice emergency scenarios in a safe, approved flight simulation training device before flying in the helicopter.
